Construct Strong Pavements With The Services Of Asphalt Paving NJ Contractors

By Gwen Lowe

Constructing your driveways or parking lots using asphalt material provides a cost effective and durable structure. Home and business owners want to install pavements that last longer. With help of asphalt paving NJ contractors, you can install pavement using quality materials and the best practices. The durability of asphaltic driveways and lots depends on the practices used in laying down the sub base and installing the blacktop.

Installing asphaltic pavements requires good ground preparation to make the sub grade layer compact and firm. This material is one of the least expensive in constructing pavements. New asphaltic material is flexible since it has higher levels of hydrocarbon oils, which make up its structure. The foundation of driveways is constructed using aggregate materials, which are firmly compacted to promote stability of the overall structure.

When the blacktop becomes dry and less elastic, it starts forming cracks. If small hairline cracking are forming, what might be needed is applying a sealcoat to restore the visco-elasticity property of blacktop material. However if cracks have extended and are clearly visible, other methods like overlays may be applied.

Resurfacing or overlay restores the cracks at once but it may not be appropriate for large forming cracks. If you have cracks like the alligatorred or fatigued cracks, you can use other methods like patching. Sealcoating is applied after every 2 to 5 years based on the rate of wearing out of the sealer coat. Water causes damages on driveways and parking lots by seeping in and enlarging cracks.

The cracks may be restored using crack fillers or patching techniques depending on the severity. Allowing cracks to continue forming increases the risk of water entering the subgrade layer. Water is among the most leading destructive elements to asphaltic pavements. Cracks in driveways mainly occur due to insufficiently compacted base.

The ground has to be prepared properly by removing topsoil and clay then replacing it with crushed stone and gravel to form the sub base. The quality of your driveways is as good as the sub base. If there is weakness within the sub base, it will affect the structural integrity of your pavements. When the blacktop is installed, the pavement is sealed using a weatherproof sealer material.

The typical job of installing paved surfaces using asphaltic materials entails preparing about two layers of the hot mix that are laid over the sub base. The contractor may decide to use full depth asphalt if the surface will support heavy vehicular traffic. With full depth application, the entire parking lot or driveways including the sub base layer is designed using the liquid asphaltic cement.

The pavements become fragile and flaky something that leads to formation of cracks. The cracks may start as thin hairline cracking but as the oxidation process continues, they enlarge and begin to permit moisture to penetrate. If you do not seal cracks, you may soon experience major problems. Sealing cracks can be done in different ways depending on the severity and nature of cracking.
